2017 WCARS Christmas Dinner

The yearly WCARS Christmas dinner for 2017 will be Saturday December 2 at 6pm at the J&S Cafeteria at River Ridge Mall. We have made reservations for the private dinning room and everyone is responsible for purchasing their own meal. Hope to see everyone and their better half!!!!!

The future of the W4MOE Repeater on Spivey Mountain must be addressed.

In addition, club Bylaws require that nominations for club officers for 2018 be concluded at the October meeting.

WCARS Hamfest 2017 Swiftly Approaching – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!!!!

The WCARS Hamfest is only a little over 2 months away! We need volunteers to sign up ASAP to help with the hamfest. Below you will find a link to a quick and easy form. Simply fill out your name, call sign, email address, and which shifts would work for you. Keep in mind, if you are a member of WCARS who is attending the vendor dinner, we ask that you bring at least 2 covered dishes (with food in them). Meat will be provided.

James McCain, WB4YQD, now a Silent Key

This just in from WCARS Treasurer Steve Emory, N4SET:

 

Hi all:

With deep regret, we must record the loss of James O. McCain, WB4YQD, of Fairview.

James was a regular at our monthly meetings, and many of our events over the years.

James will certainly be missed by the amateur radio community and WCARS.

A partial obituary follows:

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Johnny W. Clements officiating. Interment will follow at the Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, c/o Dianna McCain, 435 Brush Creek Rd., Fairview, NC 28730.

Prayers requested for two local hams

“Please add Randy and Linda Harris (KI4VLW, KJ4CRL) to our prayers. Linda was hurt in a freak accident, resulting in a recovery time of six or more weeks and, Randy, as her husband, has extra duty as her nurse.”

2016 Hamfest Details . . . Volunteers needed!

This just in from WCARS Hamfest chairman Zach Thompson, KM4BLG.  See attached flyer.

Hard to believe the WCARS hamfest is just over 2 months away! We are looking forward to a great hamfest this year! This year’s hamfest will be held July 30, 2016 at the Haywood County Fairgrounds in Waynesville, NC! Remember that ticket sales are still going on! Tickets are just $5. Tables are $12 and covered spaces are $10. Our hamfest is great for the seasoned Elmer and new ham alike! We will also have VE testing! So if you want to upgrade your license or know someone who wants to get their ticket, come bWCARS Hamfest Flyer 2016y and see us at the Lake Junaluska Fire Dept during the hamfest! As always, feel free to email me with questions at this email address. Have a great memorial day and I hope to see everyone at the hamfest!

W4DCD’s mother has passed away

Please keep Dwight Danner and his family in your prayers.  The following info via WCARS President Scott McCabe, W4IYS:
This information from W5VE Ralph:
Dwight’s mother is not doing well after a heart attack and stroke and is
under Hospice care.
Dwight Danner’s (W4DCD ) mother passed away this morning at 0600, further information unknown,  I will keep everyone updated. Please keep their family in your thoughts and prayers.
Funeral service for Dwight’s mother will be a private one this Sunday with a Life Celebration at Foster Church on Hendersonville Road in April.  Groce Funeral Home will have info posted tomorrow.
